Rob Cope was born in Swindon in 1988 and moved to Manchester in 1995. It is here that he did the majority of his musical study, first at Chetham’s School of Music under James Muirhead, a school he attended for eight years, before moving to the Royal Northern College of Music to study with Rob Buckland and Andy Scott. Whilst at the RNCM Rob performed professional engagements with the Halle Orchestra whilst also becoming increasing interested in Jazz, performing in the RNCM Big Band with internationally renowned jazz artists such as Chris Potter, Norma Winstone and Mike Walker.

Upon graduating from the RNCM Rob moved to London where he studied Masters in Jazz Performance at the Royal Academy of Music, graduating with distinction in 2012. Whilst at the Academy Rob worked extensively with the RAM Big Band, performing numerous gigs at the London Jazz Festival, as well as featuring at Ronnie Scott’s for the debut gig of Troykestra, with RAM Alumni Josh Blackmore, Chris Montague and Kit Downes.
Rob has recorded several albums for V&V Music, an independent jazz label, including a recording of his own band, Southbound, along with appearances on Jack Davies Flea Circus album and The Jack Davies Big Band. Rob has also recorded on Edition Records with the Reuben Fowler big band for the debut album, Between Shadows, featuring internationally renowned artist, Tom Harrell. Rob has recently appeared on a soon to be released debut album with London based contemporary big band, Chaos Orchestra.
